Confetti: What kind of confetti should I have at my wedding?
SHOULD I HAVE CONFETTI?
HELL YES! Confetti throwing began hundreds of years ago in Italy from a tradition which started in festivals. I love a confetti shot, and encourage all couples to have the moment included in their day. However it takes a little bit of planning to make sure it goes right. Keep on reading to learn more.
IS CONFETTI ALLOWED?
A slight surprise but not all venues accept confetti. You’ll find some church permits can differ from each vicar - some may say ‘nope!’ which is disheartening. If you really want your confetti shot, check before booking. There maybe certain requirements such as, making sure your confetti is biodegradable or natural dried flowers only. Luckily, you’ll find there are lots of options ranging from paper to petals.
DO I PROVIDE IT?
If you’re looking for consistency, it’s best to ask your guests not to bring their own confetti. Make sure to buy LOTS of confetti, you’ll be surprised by how much you’ll need to make an EPIC photo. So that everyone has a handful, delicate the groomsmen to handing this out prior to you both walking through the confetti tunnel. This will prepare everyone and make sure it’s not thrown too early.

HOW DO I GET THE TIMING RIGHT?
A confetti tunnel is carefully thought out. To make sure the confetti moment looks amazing in photos let your photographer organise it. Your wedding photographer can organise everyone and then give you the go ahead. You may have some guests throw out and not up, so be prepared for confetti in your hair, ears, maybe mouth if you’re caught in the firing line!
WHEN TO THROW CONFETTI?
If you are allowed to have confetti outside, the best time to schedule the throwing of confetti is right after the ceremony. Everyone makes their way outside and as the married couple leave the ceremony building they are sprinkled with confetti. However if confetti isn’t permitted outside this can be done as the married couple walk down the aisle.
THROW UP NOT OUT!
When providing guests with confetti, direction is always required. The best photos are when confetti is thrown upwards, as high as they can - this will cascades down gently. This will also help combat the urge to close your eyes and put your head down.
GET A CONFETTI CANNON!
Arm guests with a few confetti cannons to let off during the confetti tunnel or the first dance! Some couples don’t want to spend time setting up a confetti photo earlier in the day, and that is totally fine. The first dance is a great opportunity to have your confetti tunnel or circle here - all your guests can enjoy it and dance with you!
